Kodi is an open-source media center that lets you play movies, TV shows, music, and video games on all sorts of devices. It doesn't give you any content by itself – you have to add your own media in order to watch or listen using Kodi.

While you can't install Kodi on a Roku device, you can still access your Kodi content on Roku by screen mirroring from another device to a Roku player – here's how.

How to turn on screen mirroring on your Roku

Before you can mirror a device on your Roku, you must enable screen mirroring.

1. From the settings menu, scroll until you find System. Click OK on your remote to open the System menu, and click Screen mirroring.

How to mirror Kodi to Roku from an Android device

If your Android is running version 4.2 or later, it likely has the ability to screen mirror, though the feature goes by different names depending on your device.

For example, on Google Pixel devices, the screen mirror feature is called "Cast" and on Samsung Galaxy devices, it's called "Smart View." On other devices, the feature may be called QuickConnect, SmartShare, AllShare Cast, Wireless display, Display mirroring, HTC Connect, or Screen casting.

  • On a Samsung Galaxy S21, open the Notification Panel and tap Media. Then, select Smart View and choose your Roku from the list of nearby devices.

Once your Android screen is casting onto your Roku, open the Kodi app and play your content.

How to mirror Kodi through other devices

You can install Kodi on Windows, MacOS, Linux, and Raspberry Pi. Windows users can use the wireless projection features built into Windows 10 to mirror Kodi onto their Roku.

The iOS version of Kodi requires a jailbroken device, so it may not be suitable for most users.

Linux and Raspberry Pi users may wish to directly connect their devices to the TV using an HDMI cable instead of mirroring the screen to a Roku because these versions of Kodi don't have an out-of-the box feature to quickly enable screen mirroring.
