UK intelligence published satellite imagery showing dead bodies lying in the street in Bucha, the Kyiv suburb where hundreds of civilians were killed during Russia's occupation of the city.
The photo, which show eight marked dead bodies, is dated March 21 — refuting Kremlin claims that the massacre was a Ukrainian hoax and only happened after Russian forces withdrew from the area at the end of March.
"Analysis of satellite imagery dated 21 March 2022 shows at least 8 bodies identified lying in a street in Bucha, Kyiv Oblast," UK's Ministry of Defense wrote in a Tuesday tweet about the satellite photo. "Bucha was occupied by the Russian armed forces until 31 March 2022."
Hundreds of civilians were found dead in Bucha after the city was recaptured by Ukrainian troops. Scores of corpses were found in partially excavated mass graves while many others were found throughout the streets.
Photos and videos taken from Bucha showed some victims exhibited signs of torture — some of the corpses had their hands bound behind their backs.
After the discovery of the mass civilian deaths, Western leaders and human rights groups slammed Russia for what the President Joe Biden referred to as "war crimes."
International organizations like the United Nations and European Union announced they would collect evidence to investigate possible war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy railed against the UN Security Council on Tuesday for failing to stop Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.
He told the Security Council that he sees two options for the group following the Bucha discovery: punish Russia or dissolve itself.
"Are you ready to close the UN? Do you think that the time of international law is gone? If your answer is no, then you need to act immediately…The UN system must be reformed immediately," Zelenskyy said.
